New research published in the January/February 2013 issue of General Dentistry, the peer-reviewed clinical journal of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), indicates that the use of a germ-killing mouth-rinse in addition to regular tooth brushing can significantly reduce plaque and gingivitis, more so than brushing alone.

 

The current definition by FAO/WHO for Probiotics is: “live microorganisms which when administered in adequate amounts confer a health benefit on the host”. The two most common bacteria used as probiotics are lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria. Some yeasts are also thought to be helpful as ‘probiotics’.
