USA, July 8, 2024 - Botox is now being used for practical purposes in some places.
In a recent workshop at the American Academy of Implant Dentistry Annual Scientific Meeting, Pankaj Singh, DDS, spoke about the need for dentists to focus on facial details after dental implants. He said that that Botox and dermal filler agents can be applied for cosmetic use after implants. Botox (Botulinum toxin (BTX)), which is produced by Allergan, is a potent neurotoxin produced by an anaerobic bacteria – clostridium botulinum – that causes decreased muscle activity via the inhibition of the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction. Because of this, BTX has been found to be useful in the management of a number of neurological disorders and is used for cosmetic purposes. There are several distinct types of BTX including A,B,C,D,E,F and G with type A the most commonly used commercial product. The available clinical research suggests that Botox A is relatively safe and no deaths have occurred as a result of anaphylaxis (J Am Dent Assoc. 2000; 131(2):211-216). |
