According to a recent report, there has been an increase of 55% in the number of children receiving fluoride varnish treatments from NHS dentists. The report was prepared and released by NHS Information Centre.

The report shows that nearly 850,000 fluoride varnish treatments were provided by NHS dentists to children during 2010-2011. The report indicates that nearly 8% of the treatments carried out on children were related to the delivery of fluoride varnish.

In addition, the report shows that there has been a significance increase in the number of children receiving fluoride varnish treatments between 2009/2010, and 2010-2011. The percent of the children receiving fluoride procedures rose by nearly 55%. Fluoride varnishing treatments are carried out to provide more protection to the teeth from dental decay. These procedures are approved and encouraged by the Department of Health.
