PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla., USA: Biomet 3i, specialist in dental implants and abutments, and Sirona Dental Systems, one of the world's largest manufacturers of dental technology, have teamed up to create digital solutions that facilitate esthetic restorations.

According to the companies, the collaboration will allow the combined utilization of BIOMET 3i's patented BellaTek Encode Impression System and Sirona's CEREC intraoral scanner to create intraoral impressions for custom abutments.

These technologies will provide dental clinicians with simplified esthetic restoration solutions. Using an intraoral device, they will be able to take digital impressions of healing abutments without removing the abutment, which is conventionally required. They will be able to scan embedded codes on the occlusal surface of the abutment, the surrounding tissue and adjacent dentition, which provide the necessary information to design and mill the definitive abutment.

In addition, the combination of the technologies may result in greater patient satisfaction, as intraoral scanning eliminates the need for impression taking and is more time saving overall than conventional procedures.
