This past week HIH-Dental published a piece on the FDA proceedings related to amalgam. Apparently, as the detractors state, there may be ‘gaps’ in the science pursued to date on the subject of amalgam safety and its relationship to toxicity and disease. To this author, it seems incredulous that there is still question about the safety of amalgam. The research and literature regarding this question is exhaustive and firmly supports its designation as a class II device with special controls for its use. Given the known science, the FDA’s final rule, issued July 2009, appears reasonable and prudent. Yet, the anti-amalamists, as they have been called, continue to argue that the there are flaws in the methodology and conclusions in the submitted clinical studies of amalgam. And they continue to argue that amalgam causes all manner of disease including autoimmune disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, Parkinson’s disease, Meniere's Disease,...

RSNA 2010, the 96th scientific assembly and annual meeting of radiology personel, is being held this week (November 28-December 4th, 2010) in Chicago, USA. There are more than 650 exhibitors and literally thousands of participants from all over the world in attendance. Manufacturers are exhibiting their latest radiologic equipment, supplies, and services. New research and technology is being demonstrated in lectures and poster abstracts and the latest medical texts on radiology are available for purchase.
