A new NIH collaborative research program that focuses on the role of the brain in perceiving, modifying, and managing pain will complement basic science and clinical research efforts of other ongoing intramural neuroscience, imaging, and mental and behavioral health research programs. The program is based in the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM). Catherine Bushnell, PhD, an internationally recognized pain and neuroscience researcher from McGill University in Montreal, has been appointed scientific director.

Alexandria, Va., USA – It has become increasingly imperative for the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) and its members to stress to Capitol Hill the importance of biomedical research funding, given the significant cuts facing the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other agencies in FY13. AADR has assembled a program that will provide attendees with a brief overview of the funding and political landscape in Washington, DC, as well as an afternoon of meetings with elected officials and congressional staff. More than 65 congressional offices will be visited, representing 17 states.
